Universal Design And Its Inter-city Rail Transport

Universal design is a kind of modern design theory, which extends and develops the design thinking of "people-first". Universal design (UD) is the design of products and environments to be usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design. With the researching theory and carrying out the design, it is aggressive to widen the idea and methodology of industrial design and to enrich the connotation.In this paper, the original research that by means of the history background that drives the foundation and development of universal design, to induce the conception and seven design principles. Moreover, the typical product designings are supplied as the application model to explain universal design profoundly.Based on this research, the article introduces the design, which applies the UD theory on the intercity train. After being sufficiently surveyed and studied, the intercity train between Shanghai and Nanjing will be optimized with the method of UD. The design work is developed in the following aspects: the side entrance, the join door, the overall arrangement, the seat, the color, the toilet and the symbol. After that, the dominant application fields and developing trend direction of UD is summarized successfully.By means of the original research, it will supply more source materials to enrich the methodology of the design in a way and strength further education research and practice for idea of industrial design. Moreover, it is expected to initiate even better design examples, with the better implement research in the future.
