Written In A Bilingual Dictionary And Vocabulary Study Of The Interaction

In Turkmenistan, the number of people learning Chinese keeps increasing, yet, until now, there is no Chinese-Turkmen dictionary for those learners. This, to some extent, has had an adverse effect on their Chinese learning. The idea of writing a Chinese-Turkmen dictionary for beginners is therefore stirred. This thesis is the result of theoretical thinking during the process of compiling the dictionary. It is intended to lend strong theoretical support to the compilation of the Chinese-Turkmen dictionary through summarizing and probing into linguistics and lexicology theory. To best satisfy the readers, the combination of linguistic theory and actual materials is the most essential basis for dictionary compilation.At the same time, through analysis on specific questions of dictionary compilation, some enlightening thoughts on the expansion of lexis research realm are put forward.This thesis is composed of three parts.The first part is about the general situation of researche on bilingual dictionaries. Lexicology, a science on dictionary compilation, is a branch of lexicography. As a component of lexicology, the research on bilingual dictionaries has abruptly attracted more and more attention. The compilation of bilingual dictionaries differs from other dictionaries in that the compiling principles and the realm of research are not the same. Currently, there are a great number of bilingual dictionaries and, looking at them, we find a lot of problems in them such as a lack of originality and criterion, imbalance of words that are embodied and incorrectness of meanings of words.The second part is about the scale and structure of the Chinese-Turkmen dictionary. The Chinese-Turkmen dictionary is a popular and indrawn edition. With theory as the forerunner and material as the basis, the writing of this dictionary is being done under the direction of linguistics, lexis and lexicology theory. The principle of compilation is to combine theory and practice, to embody typification, to combine static and dynamic state, and to represent era. The target readers of the dictionary are people with above average literacy, so this decides the scale and range of words that will be embodied in the dictionary. The stylistic rules and layout of the dictionary are a key points in the general design of the compilation. It involves the array and searches of terms, choosing and compiling of terms, arrangements of the explanations, choosing or abandoning ofglosses and their arrangements, procedures and methods of explanations, and examples of words, etc.The last part is about what revelations the compilation of the dictionary may yield to lexis research. It involves the orientation of the part of speech in the Chinese language, discussions on cultural connotations of Chinese words, and thoughts on the meanings of Chinese words. Herein lays the originality of the thesis. In the process of compiling the dictionary, the hot issues of lexis research are rethought and further explanations are attempted.It is not easy to compile the Chinese-Turkmen dictionary by oneself, yet the writer has made a fairly good preparation for the possible difficulties and challenges. The writer will attach importance to the collection and settlement of language materials and the combination of theory and practice. The dictionary will be gradually perfected until it is all-sided and systematic in order to fill the blank of the Turkmen Sinology.
