The division of the elegant music and earthly music has aleady exsited during the two thousand years. For example, there was elegant music and the Zheng country music , Yangchun Baixue and Xiali Baren during spring and autumn period. Until Qing dynasty, there was the elegant part and the earthly part in Chinese traditional opera. These are divided from the vocal perspective. Dividing the elegant music and earthly music from the instrumental perspective especially the similar instruments and illustrating them has been a new research in the academia.Research on the elegance and earthliness of instruments can investigate the them from the abstract conception to the material modality. Thus we can comprehend the elegance and earthliness more directly and realized their representation and causation. At the same time ,we can promote the material instrumental art to the theoretical level and we can realize the characters and evolution path of the Chinese instruments on a macroscopical and rational point of view. Therefore, research on the elegance and earthliness from the material instrumental perspective can not only help us understand the relationship between Chinese music and culture, but also have the theoretical and practical significance on the path of instruments and thus deepen the comprehension of elegance and earthliness. The article introduces the conception of the elegance and earthliness to compare Qin and Zheng music and their cultural connotation comprehensively, to grasp their own characters more reasoningly and to realize the cultural connotation of them more deeply. The article firstly divides 4 parts of the history, user, esthetics and genre style of Qin and Zheng music to prove that the division of the elegance and earthliness assuredly exists. Then it ulteriorly studies what the differences embody on the elegance and earthliness, promoting the material instrumental art to the theoretical level . At last, it concludes that the elegance and earthliness reflect a steady and universal cultural phenomenon and they diffusely embody many fields of Chinese music culture including material instruments so much as the two similar instruments. Both the elegance and the earthliness have their own values, strongpoints and users, and we can't neglect any of them. Qin music reflect the elegant culture which reserves the traditional characters, presents serene and implicative esthetics and is fitted with the classes, while Zheng music reflect the earthly culture which emphasizes transformation, presents vivacious and explicit esthetics and is fitted with the masses.Comparative research on the elegance and earthliness of Qin and Zheng music can help us realize their characters and functions more distinctly, make better creation, enjoyment and study of them and promote the developments of the two traditional and zoetic instruments.
