In the history of morden literature ,it appeared these youths :they accepted the western thoughts ,washed by the western culture and gained the new value of people. They hoped change the social and made the country thriving and powerful. But because they were so weak, most of them defeated under the strengthen troditonal oppress .They could not find their position in the society. Their characters were similar to the superfluous man who had appeared in Russian culture in nineteenth century. In this paper, the superfluous man not only means the esthetic objects , but also means the writers' feeling in the works and even means the writers of themselves. Exploring and reviewing these objects, we could find out social culture how to impact the superfluous man's hearts, also we could find out the way that Chinese intellectual spirits' change.In this paper, it simply introduces the concept of the superfluous man how to be introduced in and the concept's meaning. Then this paper set forth the superfluous man's characters in three stages of Chinese modern literature. In the epilogue, it analyzes the superfluous man's historical sense and defects. In brief, only if the history appears transition between the new culture and the old culture, the superfluous man would be unavoidable. Thirty years of Chinese modern literature was that Chinese politics and history had big changes. In the big changes times, the superfluous man emergenced probably and inevitably. About the superfluous man, on the one hand, they had the spirits of resist, on the other hand, they tended to be sensitive , discourage and even escaped from realities, gave up themselves. But their characters were virtue, full of humanist spirits. Most of them were the Middle People. These coulourful and tipical objects hold the important situation in the whole history of Chinese modern literature, and which had big points and influences.
