The Ly Dynasty and Tran Dynasty were two more powerful dynasties in Vietnamese history. With the maturity of government system and the development of economy and culture, the self-identity of Vietnamese was stronger and stronger. The rulers of Vietnam carried out active foreign policies. On the one hand they accepted and kept "the suzerain-vassal relationship",on the other hand because Vietnam had been deeply influenced the Chinese culture for a long time, they endeavored to turn other neighboring countries and regions (Champa and ChenLa,etc.)into their vassals, and wanted to establish another relation of "Suzerainty and Vassal".We can call it "the Relation of Sub-Suzerainty and Vassal".The correlation and the differentiation of "Suzerainty and Vassal" and "Sub- the suzerain-vassal relationship" reflected the characteristic of the foreign relations of Vietnam in this period. The rulers of Ly and Tran took full advantage of two "the suzerain-vassal relationship",and managed the relations with china and other neighbours with flexible diplomatic means. In this process, Vietnam increased its strength and moved towards the prosperity.
