The relation of film and literature is a very practical aesthetic problem, and its practicality is embodied on film adaptation. After 1978, film concept has been gradually getting open, which also brings an entirely new appearance of film adaptation. In order to make an overall research on the evolution of film adaptation in China after 1978, in this thesis, by studying the techniques of creation and socio -cultural context in film adaptation, the author attempts to analyze and conclude the connotations and characteristics of the films adapted from literature in adaptation thoughts, the relation of literature and film, the socio-cultural influence on film adaptation. In adaptation thoughts, film adaptation turns conscientiously inside the logic of film itself, establishing "film standard" consciousness, and containing dramatic and literary adaptation methods. In the relation of literature and film, film adaptation abides not only to the credendum of "faith to original work", but increasingly pays attention to the directors' self-conscience and individual style. In the socio-cultural influence on film adaptation, film adaptation is always in step with socio-culture, which first highlights the consciences of social and cultural thinking. And mass culture springing up in 90's extends the influences from themes to adaptation thoughts and techniques, which brings film adaptation into the operations of commercial film. When a general survey of the evolution's rich connotation and the developmental process has been made, we can be enlightened in a useful way in film adaptation, and it will further give some instructive references to the current and future film adaptation production.
