These years, there is a shift from the analysis of historical translated data to culture studies. It means studying the early modern translated fiction from the mutual relationship between target culture and translation activities. Based on the perspective of narratology, this dissertation analyzes the influence of the early modern translation of foreign fiction on the transformation of narrative mode of Chinese traditional fiction.In the past, with regards to the studies of translation from Late Qing Dynasty to May 4~th Movement, the emphasis has always been laid on the analysis of data. However, the development of Chinese modern fiction has close relationship with the translation history. Fiction is the art of narration. Its main function is narrative, therefore, it can help us to get a better understanding of the great influence of translated fictions on our traditional novel by analyzing the changes of narrative techniques. The transformation of narrative mode is an important part of the modernization of Chinese literature and it is related closely to the early modern translated fiction. This process from "traditional" to "modern" developed in special social and cultural background. Therefore, it will help us to study this important fiction translation activity in Chinese literary translation history better from the perspectives of narratology and culture study. |
