Study Of Gender Differences In Verbal Communication

Language is a symbol system, and is also one of the social phenomena that closely related to mankind. On human characteristics and differences in language, gender studies have just emerged, but in fact, as a social variant of language, gender differences in language is perhaps the oldest form of human language differences. While language phenomenon interacts with socio-cultural factors, language code no longer means just simple symbols of pure linguistic, but includes a complex social factors and profound cultural significance. Then, behind the phenomenon of gender difference in speech communication, what kind of social, psychological and cultural factors exist? We need to study and explain.The thesis is divided into five parts :The first part outlines the situation of language and gender study in the western countries and in Russia, introduces his status quo and level of development.The second part elaborates the basis of theories of gender differences study in speech, in which will mainly be used the Language Variation Theory, Differences in Gender Roles Principle and the Theory of Language and Thinking, the Cooperation Principle and the Politeness Principle.The third part will be a detailed analysis and conclusion of gender differences in speech communication, which is focused on different levels of language system and speech style. In language system at all levels include phonetic, vocabulary and syntax ; in speech style include topic selection, the volume of words and speech strategy .Part IV analysis the cause of formation of gender differences in speech. The most important factors to be studied and discussed in the thesis include the physical, psychological and cultural factors.Part V clarify the practical meaning of study and pay great attention to the research of gender differences in speech, and the author makes some aspects of her own view.The creative point of this thesis is that, the author makes comprehensive analysis and study of the differences between men and women, proceeding from the dynamic process of speech communication, using the theories of social linguistic, psychology and pracmatic, taking multi-level methods of description, constract and comprehensive analysis, explores its causes of formation, and on teaching suggestions makes some of her own view.
