Literature Of The Small Town

Chinese literature in 20^th is generally divided into local literature and urban literature. The study of local literature and of urban literature have been developed both from the length and width sufficiently. But the existence of special space-the small city in the literature has been neglected, the explanation and research to the key word of"the small city"have been in the zone of blank to some extent and its special value has not been revealed yet. The special cultural implication and form and the special psychology and the way of life influence the trend of subjects, emotional implication, the expressing ways ,aesthetic pursuit and so on in the literature of the small city ,so that it forms the literary landscape that is different from local literature and urban literature .The small city or town is the"the third society"which is different from the big city and the countryside in sociology. The small city is not only the social and cultural background in the field of modern literature, but also the subject that has the life and character. It is set up as a kind of a figure .In this thesis I tried to give an elementary explanation to the figure of the small city ,separated the existence of small city from a kind of ambiguity, established the figure of small city in the field of modern literature ,and touched a new growing point in the search of modern and contemporary literature. I began the thesis from the social application of small city. Xiaotong Fei suggested that we should break the"city"into the"town"and"the big city",separating the existence of"town". It was consistent with the idea of the socialist Qiushui Xin that the"town"was the third society . It formed its own system in the aspect of the area and space , the structure of politics and economics, the system and customs, and the structure of spirit and culture .Beginning from the speciality of the small city in sociology, I tried to discuss the figure of small city gradually.
