Public art is the main component of the city appearance, which is the important carrierof the city history and culture. A successful and excellent public art can show the city’scultural grade and spiritual world, beautifying the environment, and meeting the public spaceof the living environment of the demand as well. With the acceleration of the urbanization,the urban construction is being strengthened gradually, the development of social economyand the demand of people to chase for aesthetics and functional demand are increasing, andthe public also pay more and more attention to art quality, so small and medium-sized citypublic art construction is paid more and more growing concern.This paper is aimed at study small and medium-sized cities public art designing bydifferent strategies to solve the problem of assimilation, without characteristic. These days,there are many voices which have been criticized and accused urban public art whichbecomes the similar, assimilation, without characteristic, especially the urbanization is smalland medium-sized cities in this problem which is more serious. In order to solve this problemto improve the image and the city brand for small and medium-sized cities, it is the value forpublic art design adopting differentiation. This article mainly analyzes through the presentsituation of public art small and medium-sized cities, combined with numerous factorsinfluencing public art of small and medium-sized cities, and then puts forward to the practicalreliable strategies for the small and medium-sized cities public art design based ondifferentiation.This paper is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, and thesecond chapter studies the basic research for public art, the concept and features of the publicart, and then comes up with the necessity of implementing the differentiation strategy of thesmall and medium-sized city public art construction. Through the research of the currentsituation small and medium-sized city public art, the third chapter brings up the problemsabout the small and medium-sized city public art construction which is too similar, no localcharacteristics, and lack of management, etc. The fourth chapter is main about the currentsituation of the small and medium-sized city public art, and the writer analyzes theimplementation of public art differentiation strategy construction from three aspects ofdevelopment constitute factors, which are the nature, economy and cultural, analyzingcharacteristics of small and medium-sized city public art, ensures the differentiation strategiesof implementation which requires a certain amount of money and the high quality humanresources for basic guarantee, puts forward the construction of public art characteristic to theprinciples that should be followed through on the public art design theme, material selection, the culture and style of the differences and achieve final adopt differential ways.During the implementation of the differentiation strategy of small and medium-sized citypublic art, they should be widely absorbed the domestic and foreign advanced cities of theexisting outstanding results, with the characteristics of the era and the local geographicalfeatures, under the guarantee of strong capital and excellent design talents, so that they canconstruct characteristic small and medium-sized cities in public art and manifest imagecharacteristics of small and medium-sized cities.
