Solfege is a basic course to those who major in music, among which, sight-sing is a vital part in training the students' ability in reading score and improving their musical quality. Textbooks are very important to Solfege teaching and teachers must choose proper and various materials according to the students' level.For a long time, the materials of foreign music works chosen in normal university Solfege teaching are mainly the traditional works based on tonal system, namely, the works in Baroque era, Classical era and early and middle Romantic works. However, from later Romanism, the western music has entered a new stage, in which different groups, different ideas coexist side by side and music has developed from tonal music to pantonality, polytonality atonality, and serial music etc., and all the relevant scale, harmony, harmonic progression, rhythm and form have all undergone great changes. Nowadays, to students who are confronted all kinds of music works in their music practice, learning traditional music in Solfege class is far from enough to meet their need in understanding the complicated music phenomena. Hence, the teachers must widen their teaching system by choosing textbooks extensively to help the students feel and learn more types of music. However, to the students who have been familiarized with traditional music works, they might feel unaccommodated when they are turned to Solfege training based on the 20th century music works suddenly. Therefore, Solfege teachers should choose the works which are not only include modern compositional skills but not far away from tradition, and use the textbooks containing such kind of materials which form a connection link between the preceding and the following.
