Self-consciousness was used as an important principle of modern philosophy. It's the nuclear concept, through which we can understand the standpoint and the way of modern philosophy. The clue of the article is developed logically enclosing it. By reviewing the history of self-consciousness especially through the analysis of Kant's and Hegel's philosophy, we can make clear of the development of self-consciousness in German classical philosophy. The principle of self-consciousness was indeed established by Kant, and got to the destination in Hegel's philosophy. For the request of theory which must solute the problem of duality, the concept of self-consciousness turn from transcendental concept in Kant's to the concept of spirit in Hegel's.
