The medieval-time Chinese language is quite significant in Chinese language history. It inherits lots from the remote-ages Chinese language and also inspires the modern Chinese language deeply. Great changes were taken place during this period, meanwhile, some new characteristics were showed. In this paper we research on the connectives of hypothetical complex sentences in the medieval times, and also hope to show language's transformation of words' compounding and compactness of sentence construction.We study this topic with a large quantity of books that can represent the Chinese language's feature in medieval times, such as "San Guo Zhi", "Sou Shen Ji","Shi Shuo Xin Yu", "DunHuang Bianwen Ji", "Zu Tang Ji" and so on. A few worthy language materials from remote or modern ages is used as well. We not only investigate and analyze the connnectives' shapes, but also to reflect the grammar regulations by comparing connectives' appearances in different times.The text is divided into six parts totally on the construction.Chapter 1, certain concepts of connectives are defined, and the basic composition of them are explained.Chapter 2, we give emphatic investigation to the connectives of hypothetical complex sentences in the medieval times, and conclude the connectives' position and the types of the second clause in complex sentences, in addition, describe several special connectives briefly, and still to discuss the connectives' form and characteristics.Chapter 3, "ruo" and its' compound words, for instance, "ruoyou", "ruobu", "ruoneng" and so on, they take the most important part of connectives in the hypothetical sentences. So we also talk about these typical phrases and related structures of "ruo...zhe...", "ruo...shi..." and so on.Chapter 4, some particular connectives and set phrases which indicating...
