| Song-cycle The Last Four Songs is the swan' s last peak of poetic perfection that one of the most famous German composers Richard Strauss had created before he died. The song-cycle is not only a vocal music works, but also a mighty music poetry and an immortal masterpiece. On the one hand , this thesis discusses the artistic feature of the music and the language on the basis of the music scores. On the other hand , this thesis discusses the aesthetic feature of these four songs from the aspects of "grace" and " loftiness" with aesthetics knowledge. At the same time, this thesis puts forward view on the composer' s style and outstanging contribution. The skeleton of the thesis is: with the guidance of theories of song' s nature and song' s aesthetics, and from the level of the main elements of artistic song: singing-melody , accompanying-melody, and poetry, this thesis analyzes how the composer made music inosculate poetry with various artistic measures and creative skills , and thus to instill song-cycle with special artistic and aesthetic features even perpetual artistic charm. This thesis analyzes the artistic features of the music and the language, aesthetic features and the composer' s creation. This thesis aims not only to help theoretical study of domestic artistic song, but also to help excavating really artistic and aesthetic connotation of the four songs. So, it provides help for singers to re-compose these songs.This thesis consists of five chapters.
