The dissertation studied the Xuanhe Calligraphic Florilegium (XCF), which was compiled officially in Bei-Song Dynasty, and consisted of the basilica-owned calligraphic works and the related calligraphers' biographies when the emperor was Huizong. It tried to make the calligraphic status in the Huizong period clear from the profiles of the compilatory process, the authors, the calligraphic works, the calligraphic thoughts, and the sense of value of XCF. The dissertation contains five chapters. In the first chapter, the temporal factors for the compilation of XCF were studied by the historical background firstly. Then, the author analyzed the related literature and distinguished the different five theories about XCF's author(s) which are: Wu Wengui in Yuan Dynasty; Cai Jing, Cai Bian and Mi Fu in Song Dynasty; the Hui zong himself( whose name was Zhao Ji); Cai You in Song Dynasty; Hui zong's inner vassals. Finally, the author drew a conclusion that the XCF was not compiled by one single person. The choice criterions and orientation of the calligraphic works were studied in the second chapter. In the first hand, many different calligraphers' works were compiled in XCF. In the other hand, the political opponents' works were excluded. The dissertation demonstrates that the choosing criterion and its orientation differed greatly by the contrast among the four kinds of calligraphers, which were the common calligraphers, the Old Party calligraphers, the New Party calligraphers and the controversial calligraphers. The third chapter studied the calligraphic thoughts based on the results of the second chapter and found that XCF colligated the calligraphic thoughts which were in the mainstream of the Bei Song period. It is because XCF cited Su Shi' and Huang Tingjian' calligraphic thoughts. Besides, breadth of mind, xinhua, morality, culture and uniqueness were also the most important calligraphic thoughts of XCF.
