Study Of Traditional Chinese Opera A Matter Of Time

The Chinese traditional drama, as a comprehensive art, has the dual factors of literature and stages, so the elaboration on a matter of time of the Chinese traditional drama should start from both recounts time and stage- performing time, and the relations between them as well, thus the artistic principles on the matter of time of the Chinese traditional drama will be eventually summed up.Chapter 1: Based on Saussure's lansign theory and the movie theorist Metz's theory on narrative time, the time concept of the Chinese traditional drama art can be classified into three groups, namely the story processive time, manuscript recounts time, the stage time; and the summary of these concepts, together with the relation between the story processive time and manuscript recount time will help to tally up the three characteristics of the manuscript recount time , the extension, the strictness and the thin recessiveness, and also individual study and analysis on each characteristic will be carried on in this chapter.Chapter 2: The performance of the Chinese traditional drama on stages is simply a form of the stage time, namely it refers to the process how the stage performs reflect the time of the story, thus provide us with the studying of the relation between the story time and the stage time, and at length the summing–up of the three characteristics of the stage time, the extension, compressibility and deadlock will be made.Chapter 3: It mainly covers the inquiry into the relation between the manuscript and recount time and stage performing-time on the study of the consistency and the differences. The consistency between the two lies in the free and vivid narration of the story, dealing with the story time well slightly and properly; while the differences between them focus on the following, the principal part, the materials, and the fact that the former one values"retelling"and the latter one treasures"recalling".
