This paper applies the music archaeology to compare the shape and pattern of the so-far unearthed ancient Dizi in China. It discusses the names, making, and rendition methods on basis of co-identification of both the literature and unearthed realia. The paper, by way of duplication experiment, probes into the function of super wide tone and the end hole of Chi from Zeng Houyi's (Emperor Yi of ancient State Zeng), as well as the controlling function of the sound hole size and its back holes of ancient Dizi from Ma Wangdui. This paper also investigates the history of Dizi in China by examining the two standpoints,"Xi yu"saying—ancient Dizi was originated from the northern tribe"HuQian", and the other"Xi lai"saying– it was imported from the west. By identifying both the unearthed relics with the available literature, and combining the social background of Confucian school's"Neutralization"musical ideology, it confirms the viewpoint that ancient Dize originated in West Zhou.
