Gel(Reed-pipe of Congjiang) is a proper bamboo reed within the territory of Congjiang County, Guizhou. It is made from fishscale bamboo and mao bamboo abound in the local place. It is composed of two parts, including blowpipe and resonating tube. The blowpipe has the reed. Gel has five kinds of shapes, including high pitch, alto, median, low pitch and double bass. Every shape except the double bass is used in a whole set, including male and female, giving out la, do and re. Gel is a musical instrument played by people in Congjiang from generation to generation. In old times, people often grouped into the Gel band to contest after harvesting. Volume was the standard for winning and losing. The scene was so magnificent, echoing to the clouds. Nowadays, it is often played in festivals and large-scale activities. The paper regards Gel (Reed-pipe of Congjiang) as the research object and elaborates acoustic characteristics of Gel from multiple aspects in details, such as composition and pronunciation principle of Gel, production and acoustical principle of Gel, as well as sound characteristics of Gel through field study and by applying musical acoustic measurement mens, so as to deeply know about principles of pronunciation. Finally, the paper proposes some recommendations on improvement. The paper can be divided into seven parts:Part one is introduction, which elaborates the cause for selecting the topic, research purpose and significance, research idea, content and method, as well as related literatures.Part two is the chapter one, which elaborates the origin for the name of "Gel", describes regional cultural background of Gel and deduces time for generation and its origin.Part three is the chapter two, which elaborates form characteristic of Gel in details, further elaborates its acoustic composition, and analyzes pronunciation principles from excitation-vibration-resonance-radiation.Part four is the chapter three, which begins with production method of Gel, analyzes acoustical principles of various toning methods as production, and assists with experimental data to explain.Part five is the chapter four, which analyzes frequency spectrum, finds out tonal characteristics of Gel, reveals deep reasons for loud unison sound of Gel by measuring pitch, and embodies dynamic changes of Gel volume through amplitude comparison.Part six is the chapter five, which abides by the principles of improving national instruments, uses previous experience of improving bamboo reed instruments, makes people learn lessons for lagging instrument development, and proposes an idea of Gel improvement.Part seven is the conclusion, which analyzes and summarizes the whole paper.
