Vocal learning is a long and strenuous process, and the exercise of volitional control allows vocal learner to have stronger motivation. To exercise volitional control, vocal learner self-initiates a series of appropriate action plans in which the learning methods and procedures meet the pre-determined learning objectives. Through the process, vocal learner is expected to overcome different challenges in order to foster a stronger will and perseverance. Moreover, vocal learner can enhance one's learning ability and emotional control by self-evaluating and self-regulating the vocal learning process. Therefore, when exercising volitional control, vocal learner must periodically self-regulate the learning process with motivation, determination and clear goal in order to completely accomplish the vocal learning objectives. This article applies the volitional control theory in musical psychology to the research study of vocal learning. It is hopeful that this can provide guidance to vocal learner to better self-regulate the learning process, as well as to self-evaluateand self-monitor objectively.
