With the nation's reunification and territorial expansion ,Sui,Tang and Five Dynasties become a vital importance historical period in the long history of china.During this time,the central governments carried out the effective policies of having garrison troops open up wasteland and grow food grain to increase the munition storage,of raising horses to strengthen the military force,of doing trade with the neighboring areas to keep a harmonious relationship with them. These policies played an active role in reaching the heyday of military force and national power at early stage of Tang Dynasty,also founded the theideological and material basis of the feudal states' prosperity of china. After the An-Shi's rebellion, the Sui,Tang empire suddenlly began to develop from prosperity to decline and gradually dwindled away the heritage of Tang's greatness in regional fragmentation and partial subjugation to northern national minority.As a central governments' military base of defencing northern national minority's invasions and suppressing domestic rebels, the strategic role of Youzhou in Chinese political And military fields is of great importance.Special during Sui,Tang and Five Dynasties, many significant military activities of central government as putted down the An-Shi's rebellion, the defenced tibetan invasions and the conquered Koreans, which were also directly connected with Youzhou. Therefore, wars and military activities of taked place in Youzhou during this period were specially multifarious and profound significanct.The purpose of this thesis was to reveal characteristic and rules of war and military in Youzhou during the period of Sui,Tang and Five Dynasties.In the thesis,there were four parts: In the introduction, the author mainly analyzed the practical and historical value of the thesis theme; In the first chapter, the author detailed and completely described the wars and military activities of taking place in Youzhou during Sui,Tang and Five Dynasties; In the second chapter, the author narrated and testified the characteristic,the historical cause and the great influence of the wars and military activities inYouzhou during this time; In the third chapter, the author paid attention to analyzing Youzhou's strategic position and garrison troops during the period.
