The creating period for the new sensory genre was in 1920s and 1930s, when film industry was prospering in shanghai. There were 12 professional cinemas in shanghai in 1921, and over 50 in 1939, with Shanghai Cinema becoming a place with holding capacity of a million people per day in the early 1930s, and the Hot Cinema, rebuilt with millions'input in 1933, gaining the crown of Top Cinema in the far east. Cinemas, film magazines, film guiding, film stars, and audiences, together with their mutual relations, have formed the film context in shanghai. With the atmosphere of seeing movies, films had grown as integral component of the modern cosmopolitan culture in 1920s and 1930s. Closely related to industrial civilization and metro cities, films in shanghai have been posing effects inevitably on writers of the new sensory genre, who lived in modern shanghai and yearned towards modern industrial civilization.Through studying the facts that writers of the new sensory genre favored films and explored film arts, this thesis analyses, from the perspective of modern cities and modern females, the specified evidences embodying that films had great effects on works of the new sensory genre. It elaborates the art value and creation brought to works of the new sensory genre by the penetration of film factors. The courageous attempt, exploration and creation, integrating film art into novel art and its skills, made by writers of the new sensory genre, has provided valuable experiences in creating novels, furthered the development of the new literature after the launch on May.4th, 1919, and carried forward the modernization of Chinese novels.
