Following the smoke of gunpowder as well as the historic disgrace brought over by the Opium War, piano was first introduced into China, an age-old land in which had had a long history. Hundreds years later, piano as a culture has rooted and sprung up here; moreover, an upsurge in piano is in the ascendant. Piano education, a fundamental part of Chinese piano culture, has begun to motivate its development and penetration.The piano education in China went through the hardships at the very start, the stop-overs in wars, the splendors from the foundation of new China in addition to the hazards in the ten-year disaster period, and eventually greets the approaching of its fruitful spring. " twenty years of contemporary piano education in China" mentioned in my thesis, refers to the twenty years from the enforcement of the open-and-reform policy in 1978 up to the present. The diverse periods for the advancement of piano education is the clue in the thesis tofurther illustration. By reviewing and analyzing the previous and the present state of piano education in China, the thesis aims at making known its passing course in the history emerging features in the modern era. As far as is known, today the great progress exist in every aspects of piano education, such as system construction, theory research, faculty improvement, material appliance, external communication, amateur training as well as performance conduct; besides, piano education in China is making for standardization and scientification on the basis of popularity. and socialization. However, as the thesis points out, it must be awared of that piano culture of China as a whole stays at the intermediate position around the world, so it is on the premise of objective analysis and proper solution to various problems arising that piano education in China with great vitality can hold every chance to prosper and perfect itself persistently.
