Symbol Of Social Status

As the rapid development of productivity and the enhancement of the level of science and technology, the center of the human society especially the developed countries changes from production to consumption, while the society changes from the productive society which places the production and exchange of goods as the center to the consumer society which places the production and exchange of symbol as the center. This text aims at researching into the condition of the society, and the mode of the control of power and ideology in this society.The text is based on Baudrillard's theory of consumer society and Bourdieu's theory of symbolic power. It concludes four parts, the transfer of power, symbolic power, symbolic society and the ideology of symbolic society. On the basis of Toffler's theory on transfer of power, the first part points out the new mode of the transfer, the appearance of symbolic power. The second part is mainly on symbolic power. It is mainly about the social and historical requirement of the appearance of symbolic power and the logical process of the construction of the symbolic power. Then it'll talk about the content, function and property of the symbolic power. The third part is on the inevitability and the state of symbolic society which is based on the logic of symbolic exchange. Then, we shall research on the ideology of the symbolic society, and make a comparison with the classical theory on ideology especially the theory of Marxism ideology.The aim of the research into symbolic power and symbolic society is to discover the existence state of capitalist countries nowadays and the special attribute of the control of ideology in this society. I hope I can grasp the state of this society and then make a little contribution to the classical theory of ideology.
