Late Ming The Adherents Shi Xiong And Western Of Association Studies

In the end of Ming dynasty, some Catholic missionaries came to China. They brought Chinese not only the Catholicism but also the western scientific knowledge and technology. They translated a lot of texts,including Aesop's Fables ,which was introduced to China for the first time. It was narrated by father Nicolas Trig Ault, taken down by Chinese follower ZhangGeng, and named KuangYi. Li Shixiong was a literati who lived in Fujian province in the end of Ming dynasty.He collected five fables from KuangYi and joined them into his WuGan.Liking other Confucians, Li also had discrimination against different culture ,so he was living as a recluse when Ming dynasty was replaced by Qing dynasty which was ruled by a minority. This article just manage to analyze the relations between Li's moral integrity and the western culture. I try to find out why he collected that five foreign fables, and if he was influenced by that discrimination when he absorbed western culture and literature.There are three parts : first, the history and development of Confucian's discrimination against different cultures in China .Li's discrimination had something difference from others which expected his opinion to Catholic.In the Second parts, I try to distinguish the differences between KuangYi, which was full of Catholic faith and WuGan, whose aim was to criticize the community .In his anthology, this five Catholic fables' connotation were changed so large that he used them to achieve the traditional culture of Chinese literature. The other works about western culture and religion of Li Shixiong were also following that tradition and losing the faith of Catholic. Third, I want to find out how did Li Shixiong receive these western literature texts and if he ever touched with missionaries through his teachers and friends. From this part we also can conclude that a great number of Chinese literatis had connection with missionaries .but the whole business of missionaries didn't success in China .One of the reasons was that they translated their culture and faith through confucian words, though they were temporary accepted by Chinese ,just like Li, it also made Chinese misunderstood the meaning of Catholic faith.
