Edvard Grieg, a founder of the Norwegian nationalist school of music, who was the first national composer with international influence in Modern Norway, was an outstanding one of the romantic nationalists in the late 19th Europe. A strong Norwegian characteristic is embodied in his works, so we can find a great appeal in them.Concerto in A Minor for Piano composed in 1868, his only concerto for piano is a magnificent one represent his style.Through analyzing its historic background, its structure, its characteristics in composing and technique and method for performing, especially its performance, the author discourses the performing techniques, its tempo and dynamics, and something about velocity and sustain.Researching this concerto, we can get a good understanding of Edvard Grieg's general natures in composition, which is greatly important for us to grasp his works' style. Meanwhile, analyzing and exploring its performance doesn't only contribute to understanding this concerto, also guides us to grasping its performing characteristics. What's more, we can interpret it in a better way.
