Edvard Hagerup Grieg,a representative personage of nationalists in music in the latter half of the 19 th century,was the first musician to make the world know Norwegian folk music styles.Among his works,there is not only the influences of traditional German-Austrian art music and academic skills which he learned during his study,but also the musical style of Norwegian folk music.Inspired by Norwegian folk music,he expanded the application of folk music in serious music performances,amplified the national spirit and national characteristics,and leaded Norway into the golden age of music development.“Piano Sonata in e minor”is his early representative work and the only piano sonata created by him,it is of great research significance and research value.This paper will analyse this work,and excavate the characteristics of national music in this work.This paper is divided into five parts.The first part introduces the purpose of studying this work and makes comments on Grieg and the research status about his “Piano Sonata in E minor” at home and abroad.The second part analyses the creation background of this work from the perspectives of Grieg's personal development and the tradition of Norwegian folk music.The third part analyses the application of Norwegian folk music elements in this work from tune,conciliation,rhythm and so on,reflecting its national characteristics.The fourth part analyses its work and its performance according to music examples.The fifth part reviews the main content of this paper and makes a summary.
