The May Fourth Movement literature at the beginning of the 20th century had moulded the intellectual images of a group of characters shouting enlightening and reason. This paper attempts to analysis the literature phenomenon from reason, phenomenon and approach in order to obtain a comprehensive understanding.In chapter one, the thesis discusses the reasons that the intellectual images were rewritten. The marginalisation of intellectual's status and limitation of art policy are direct reasons for this phenomenon. The constant political movement is a external reason.The production of power caused that writers agree with standard, which is internal reason for the phenomenon.In chapter two, the thesis analayses the rewritten intellectual images. The intellectual images who appears as positive images are gradually hero-rization. They can be classified as leader type intellectual images and soldier type intellectual images. Former images are brave and strong, wise and resourceful. They lead the revolution win victory. After the revolution soldier-intellectual images overcome its own weaknesses, then become brave proletariat soldiers. Intellectual females have shaken off weakness and oversensitive, and become to brave heroine. The intellectual images being uglified can be classified as the intellectual images being satirized and the images endangering the socialism. The intellectual images being satirized are wind-baggary, or has petty bourgeoisie sentiment. Writers adopt the "contrast" pattern when molding this kind of images. The images endangering the socialism cause harm to revolution for their private interests, which also includes many betrayer images.In last chapter, the thesis discusses the approachs that the intellectual images were rewritten. The change from prototypes to images is generally adopted by writers. Exaggerating to the prototypes includes the exaggeration of prototypes' heroic deeds and prototypes' shortcoming. In plotting many works set the images' class origin and emphasize the suffering on purpose, which is one of the ways the prototype has been rewritten.
