Gong bi painting is one of picture branches which has a long history in China, but after Wen ren painting emerges, Gong bi painting was disparaged and repeled in a long term. However, the true artistic style which has charm will not be vanished with time changes. Recent years, with people's reknewing about Gong bi painting , some questions neglected reappear. The spirit of Xie yi in Gong bi is one of these questions, many scholars have researched about it from several parts.Gong bi painting was misunderstanded as Jiang Qi by some people. But Gong is not Jiang, there is also the spirit of Xie yi in Gong bi painting. Not only this, because of the interlink nature of art, if we can watch Art world with the judgement of learning, we will find in Western Art, some artistic forms are similar to the forms Gong bi and Xie yi. They are very rich nutritions for Gong bi painting besides tradition art. This paper will discuss the spirit of Xie yi in Gong bi painting from two aspects—the tradition Art and the Western Art, and then, to see the development of Gong bi painting in the present age.
