Two Chu Opera Music Creation Comparative Study

In this thesis, the music creations of Two Chu dramas, "Zhui Bao Biao" and "Da Bie Shan Ren" are investigated. Using analytics and comparison methods, author analyses and summarize the creation characteristic of drama music in different historical period. Before new country was established, there are three characteristics in our drama music creation: 1, following the pattern of old genre; 2, long-term amateurish creation; 3, labor-intensive creation and experience-intensive creation. After new country was established, with the strengthen of music theory and the cultivation of music talent, the creation characteristic of drama music had changed in three points: 1, following the pattern of old genre to typical creation; 2, amateurish creation to professional creation; 3, labor-intensive creation and experience-intensive creation to theory-intensive creation and technique-intensive creation. Author analyses the creation characteristic of Chu drama after 1949 in detail by giving examples for "Zhui Bao Biao" and "Da Bie Shan Ren" created in institutional revolution and in recent time, respectively. Author analyses the characteristic and innovation of music creation and find there are three same successful points:1, application of thematic music; 2, the individuation of actor's aria; 3, emotionality of music. These three points show the typification of music creation after liberation. This is just on base of "professional creation" and "theory-intensive creation and technique-intensive creation". The three changes in music creation characteristic are great development and creation principia in our Chu drama, even in all dramas. And they also show the development direction of our drama music creation.
