One of the most important subject in Comparative Literature and World Litirature is comparative study. Clarifying the categories , analyzing the the characters and writing features . Julien and Rastignac are the images created by Stendhal and Balzac in Red and Black , Le pere Goriot. They become the important representatives of a series of capitalist images , who are struggling all by themselves. Gao Jialin is also an image struggling all by himself at the beginning of Reforming and Opening in China, who is the main character in Life written by Luyao . It is helpful for us to study these images . It can contribute to learning about such problems as capitalist individualism , individual and society , individual and others . It also can help to create the scientific notion of life value . It can supply comparative effect to the construction of socialist spiritual literature .The same feature of the three images is the desire to change their destiny. I try to search the differences and similarities during their psychological growing in their lives. According to their growing context , I try to tug the inner rule and historical necessary(necessity) in the development of these images . Moreover, I try to disclose the conflict between their individual being and historical requirement . This paper compares them from the value of life , the attitude towards love and the trend of their fate .This paper discloses the dedicate relationship between their disposition and fate under certain society .excavates the desire paradox and their esthetic value as a disposition category between talent and quality ,between individual and community .Individualism lies in the core of western capitalist ideology. It affirms that individual interest is the value orientation and fundamental motive of people's motive of people's behavior . It emphasizes that every person has the right to pursue and enjoy the happiness . The notion of people's value is also a historical category. which includes the content of the different times and classes . With the transition of capitalism from free competition to monopoly , the mainstream of individualism took apart . Yulien value of life has direct connection with his family background . On his way of growing , his background give him the sense of mean and self-esteem. If it is true that Julien come from poor people has some precious nature such as esteem . Rastignal born from the nables is a shameless guy . Facing the money , women and power , he lost the gorgeous thing of his nature, Gao Jialin is the product of certain historical context in China . His selfish and utility have the intrinsic difference from the two above . Because of the differences of growing context and literary background . Gao Jialin represents the facts of the young in the countryside of modern China . He faces the problem more of the leading to the value of life rather than the unfortunate situation of resisting the whole society.As to treating the love , Julien has taken risks in love . They all try to assert themselves . however , they failed to combing the loving for themselves with loving for others , not to mention link the individual achievement to the community development . The difference between the later 19 century in France and 1980s in China lead to the last content of the three images . The relationship of individual and community in western countries has positive value on socialist spiritual literature in China.Through the comparison above, it can found that the three images mattered ,degenerated or lost during the development of their individual value and destiny because of the differences in historical condition and individual wisdom . Yulien's faith in spirit made him close to the true love. Rastignac gave up the perfect humanity confronted with capitalism and money . Gao Jialin kept the base line of special eastern morality. He was influenced and cleaned by the worrying mentality which was owned by the intellect in China.The conclusion is that: Only we combine the individual value with the community value . and maintain perfect humanity and guard of the morality, can we really realize the pursue of oneself.
