The vivid description of Nature occupies an important position inAnd Quiet Flows the Don. Mikhail Sholokhov creates a Garden of Edenin which integrates Humans with extemal natural system and exposesHuman's spiritual crisis after the loss of paradise.The thesis attempts to analyze Mikhail Sholokhov's creation fromthe perspectives of natural and spiritual ecology and explore MikhailSholokhov's ecological philosophy combined with the social, historicaland cultural background. The thesis endeavors to provide some newinsight into the research on Mikhail Sholokhov.The thesis consists of three chapters. Chapter one analyzes theconnotation of Mikhail Sholokhov's ecological philosophy and its originof formation from the view of culture. The ecological philosophyharmonious intergrowth of Human and Nature embodied in his creationis the course of human generation by nature. Although there's not anessay in which Mikhail Sholokhov expounds his ecological ideas indetail, we still can be easy to find some foresighted shining points in theunique kingdom of art he established.Chapter two explores his ecological consciousness by analyzing theimages of Nature in And Quiet Flows the Don. As an epic on explorationof human destiny, And Quiet Flows the Don constructs an unbalancedhuman world. Human beings who have lost the natural and integratedhumanity are facing the serious spiritual crisis. Meanwhile And QuietFlows the Don establishes a world of nature full of life. MikhailSholokhov strives to pursue the natural humanity in the world of naturein order to help make human beings perfect and it also helps to expresshis ecological philosophy on the harmony between human and nature.Chapter three exams the novel from the narratology angle bycomparison with the natural point of view and the orientation of valueand it discusses his native land complex from the culture dimensionunder the background of Russian literature.
