Northern Song Dynasty Pavilions Prose

In the process of studying the essays of North Song Dynasty, if we adopt the way of classifying, we can find an interesting phenomenon: essays of Song about kiosk, dais, building and pavilion ascended sharply contrasted with Tang. According to Whole Essays of Tang Classification Index(Feng Bingwen edited in chief, China publish house 2001), there are only 64 essays about kiosk,dais,building and pavilion. But this data climbed to 3100 in Yuan Dynasty, according to Essays of Yuan Classification Index (Lu Junling, China publish house 2002). After this, essays about kiosk, dais, building and pavilion have become one of the most popular subjects in the essays from Yuan to Qing Dynasty. There are nearly 500 essays about kiosk,dais,building and pavilion during the North Song Dynasty. From Tang to Yuan, Song exerts an important effect which is worth research.This paper, focusing on single example and macroscopic investigation, shows the true view of literati of North Song that hinds behind the kiosk,dais,building and pavilion, seeks the common value and historical change of Song's literati, and reveals the reasons that essays of this kind went from seldom to prosperous.The first chapter is about what actually happened in the field of North Song's essays about kiosk,dais,building and pavilion, which was an gradual process and coincided with the North Song Essays Reform. The second part is summerize the essays of middle North Song dynasity. Some famous literati write a great deal essays about kiosk,dais,building and pavilion. The third part is to investigate the deep connotation of essays of this kind. As kiosk,dais,building and pavilion are the combination of manpower and physiography, literati of Song did not give up the active attitude of Confucianism to join in the society, whilst they tried to accommodate disposition. They enriched the world of aestheticsby writing their profound emotions. In this part, I mentioned some important phenomena and culture subjects of the North Song Dynasty, but I did not analyze them deeply. My selection of the ways of narration is: based on the reality of the essays about kiosk,dais,building and pavilion, and the connotation of this kind essay as the borderline, to represent the spiritual world of People in Song. The last chapter is detailed analysis of Zeng Gong's essays about kiosk,dais,building and pavilion. Zeng Gong's essays about kiosk, dais, building and pavilion not only reflect his literature theory, but also prove his nobleness.
