The paper studies Michael Dummett's anti-realism theory of meaning. Dummett isa famous linguistic philosopher and logician of the contemporary era. His anti-realismtheory of meaning plays an important role in contemporary linguistic philosophy withits great originality.Dummett's discourse of meaning first appeared in his explanation on Frege'sthought. In the 1970s he published his two famous article, "What is a theory of meaning(Ⅰ)? "and " What is a theory of meaning (Ⅱ)?", with his unique understanding of themeaning theory offered. In the 20th century, from 70s to 90s, he continued to explorethe issue deeper, try to improve his theory of meaning, and then gave birth to his thirdcollection: "The Seas of Language", (1993). Dummett's anti-realism theory of meaningsuffered criticism from various quarters but he continued to refine his thought undercriticism and counter-criticism.The paper is divided into four main parts. By analyzing Dummett's criticism ontruth-conditional theory of meaning, the first part expounds Dummett's philosophyfoundation: anti-realism theory, the second part gives an overview on Dummett's theoryof meaning which includes theory of reference, theory of sense and theory of force. Inthe third part, a detailed explanation is given of Dummett's concept of implicitknowledge. The explanatory concept is used to describe cognitive relationship betweenspeaker and the theory of meaning. The fourth part described the argument in thescience world and the influence on contemporary theory of meaning caused byDummett's anti-realism theory of meaning.
