Private school education was a kind of important form in Chinese ancient education system. Since the rise of Private School in the Spring and Autumn Period, it has a strong vitality existing in varies stages of social development. To the Han Dynasty, Private school education achieved a prosperous stage in the round. When Official School didn't establish, Private School undertook the social and educational programs on its own. After Official School established, Private School studied and promoted each other with it, and made up a complete education system in ancient China.There were relative political stability, economic prosperity and the wise rulers in the Han Dynasty. These conditions provided a good space for the development of culture and education. At this point, Private School thrived, too. The education content of Private School had gradually developed from "widespread and miscellaneous" to "specificity and widespread" and more and more reflected the situation of the struggle between Classical learning and New learning. The education level had obvious divides from early childhood to adult education. It had generally three stages which were the stage of initiatory education, the stage of early reading Book, the stage of studying special Book. The education method had one unique "sub-phrase receives" etc. It can be said, Private school education in the Han Dynasty had considerable progress in all aspects of education content, education form, education methods, education thoughts, etc. and had significant influences to the later generation.This paper tries to utilize the relevant literatures which were handed down from ancient times and some unearthed literatures, analysis the development situation of Private School in the Han Dynasty and comments the famous educators in the period. Then, expects to objectively look at the roles and defects of Private School and discuss that the development situation of Private School in this period made some impacts on society and future generations.
