Wei Private School And College, The Origin Of Relationship

Private school education was an important part of Chinese ancient education system. It used to have a strong vitality, and together with the official school, they impacted the Chinese ancient education since the Spring and Autumn Period.The official school was often interrupted in the epoch of the Wei, the Jin and the Southern & Northern Dynasties, so the private school undertook the responsibility for education. It absorbed the Han Private school achievements, but changed in education contents, characteristics and manners. From the components point views, especially education elements and pattern, the Private School of the Wei, the Jin and the Southern & Northern Dynasties can be directly seen as the predecessor Academy of Tang and Song Dynasty, and had a special importance in the history of Chinese ancient academy.The origin of Chinese ancient academy is a basic issue for researchers, but researches in this area are still weak, fewer researches put the Chinese ancient academy development into the long history of the private school. Most researchers agreed the following views: the Tang and Song Academy had independent teaching facilities; the teachings were conducted under certain rules; teachers & students usually revised and inscribed the collection of books. It can be conclude that private school was an advanced form of Chinese ancient academy, thus, the origin of Chinese ancient academy should be understood from the development of private schools. This paper will study the historical development and basic form of private schools since the Spring and Autumn, especially the development history through the Wei, the Jin and the Southern & Northern Dynasties. Compare the elements and general characteristics both private school of the Wei, the Jin and the Southern & Northern Dynasties with the Chinese ancient academy after that period, it will well explain that private school of Southern and Northern Dynasties is the origin of Chinese ancient academy.
