Remembrance of things past and Ulysses are two most important works of the 20th centenary modernism. This thesis focuses on the contrast of different forms of these two great works, and attaches importance to three important aspects, that is the comparative study of the external structure's unity and the characteristics of internal fragments, the study also includes the comparative analysis of the problem of "art and reality" existing in the two works. Then we will draw a conclusion that there are two important directions in modernistic literature according to "the problem of form": one of them believes that form is the most important aspect in a novel, and the novel seems like a experiment field of form; the other believes that life is primary, and the creation in form must accompany with life force. We wish that literature will walk up to life and grow in the fertile soil of nourishing life.
