During the past 10-odd years, with the rising of the climax of China's modernization and urbanization, Shanghai style literature, as an important aspect of municipal culture and shanghai culture, has come into the vision of researchers. "Shanghai style literature", this concept is defined mainly according to social and cultural elements. Having a relatively broad sense, Shanghai style literature is a new kind of literature which manages to get rid of the restriction of the traditional culture to present the characteristics of modern literature. Produced in Shanghai, a popular consumer society, Shanghai style literature which belongs to the municipal literature takes municipal cultural consciousness as its core and reflecting the style of Shanghai and building the soul of Shanghai as its responsibility. Feminine images in Shanghai style literature become the focus of attention as a result of its unique and secret relationship with the city of Shanghai. From the perspective of culture and gender, this paper joins modern and contemporary Shanghai style literature together, and clears the trace of the development of Shanghai feminine images. After new sense novels in the 1930s, Shijing novels represented by Zhang Ailing and Su Qing in the 1940s and the depression in the period of Cultural Revolution, Wang Anyi took the responsibility of developing Shanghai style literature and brought prosperity back to Shanghai in the 1980s. Entering into the 1990s, crazy Shanghai babies like Wei Hui turned up particular and treasonable. As they freely enjoyed themselves, Shanghai babies plunged into deep confusion. This paper illustrates the relationship between Shanghai feminine images and Shanghai modernization, and then further explicates the multiple connotations of Shanghai feminine images in Shanghai style literature. These connotations are characterized by secularity, desire, verge and consumption. Finally, the values of Shanghai feminine images are summarized. Shanghai feminine images based on daily life breaks down sacred value system, brings back the nature of humans' living, so readers can feel the tradition of connecting people. This paper breaks down the male system with the women gender identity to show how feminine consciousness of Shanghai novels has been improved through a light-to-dense and weak-to-strong process. In short, Shanghai feminine images not only point out a particular thought way for constructing Chinese modernization of the twentieth century, but also have great values and significance for Chinese municipal literature which to a certain extent has similar social environment and cultural system.
