Unfinished Feminine Production

The essay attempts to address two questions: how "gender" is raised as an issue in China, and whether the feminine production in China has been achieved.Through a careful study of three periods including ancient China, the enlightened times and the postmodernism times, the essay tries to review the development and evolution of the gender threshold as well as the problems of each of the periods. In ancient China, hierarchy and patriarchy immured women in their home. In the enlightened context, the problems of women were raised by the use of the enlightment discourse about nations, and were turned into the problems about human beings, leaving out the gender features of women. In the postmodernism context, "feminine" became an anti-mainstream symbol. The "subject of feminine" is dismantled under the call that everything be deconstructed. Thus, the "feminine" idea was, in some occasions, reduced to the silhouette of hierarchy, and in others, the shadow of revolution phantom of abstract symbols. As a result, healthy and real "feminine" longs for coming out from the shadows.The feminine consciousness of subjects is a self-cognition of feminine social roles and status. It's a combination of values of being as a woman as well as a member of the human society. It also combines with consciousness of subject and consciousness of gender. It is unreasonable to ignore their just status as a human without eliminating the differences between men and women in terms of social status. And we should take into accounts the heterogeneity between the two so that we can develop the special characteristics of women. At the same time of founding the feminine consciousness of subjects, we should exceed some current and popular viewpoints such as the ideal of androgyny, and the pattern of feminine discourse. If the premise of giving back the rights of freely develop and choose to women is established, the intercourse between men and women will be effective. Thus, a various and colorful world will finally be created.
