On Yuan Lai Marriage And Its Effect On Korea's Political Influence

In the long historicial river of the relation of China-Korea in accient time, the relation of Yuan Dynasty and koryo is an especially unique one. In generally speaking, the unique spot we mean here has two meanings One are the change of creating and tribute on which the relation of China-Korea depends and the ruling way that Yuan Dynasty treats Koryobecames more direct. The other meaning is the establishing of marriage and the relation of "Nephew-Mother's brother" between Yuan Dynasty and Koryo. Compared with the traditional marriage of China in accient times, the relationship by marriage between Yuan and Koryo is also based on the political benefits of each other, In one word, it's an inevitable outcome by the way of compromise on politics. To the Yuan Dynasty, it' sa tactics of strengthing the ability of controlling Koryo by the way of moral and force. Yet to Koeyo, it's a necessary way to increase the political benefits of it's own. Such as the native position's improving, the state of half independence's keeping, the kingship's consolidating, and so on. There is no doubt that many effects have already been found in both countries, especially in Koryo. Among all the fields that the effects reached, the influences of politics in Koryo which are caused by the relationship by marriage between Yuan and Koryo is the most important one. Inthis thesises, we' lldiscuss from three chapters: First, the general idea of the relationship by marriage between Yuan and Koryo; Second, the relationship by marriage between Yuan and Koryo and the kingship of Koryo;the third, the factors that are attached to the marriage between Yuan and Koryo on the political part of Koryo. Among which chapter two and three are the chapters that we'll put our emphasis on.The text of this thesis can be divided into three chapters" introduction, main body and conclusion.The first part will introduce the trends, purpose ,significance, scope, the methods of the study.ChapterⅠis to expound the general conditions of the relationship by marriage between Yuan and Koryo. Such as it's establishing, development, atrophy, and so on.. In order to make the venation more clearly, we' ii start with the beginning of the background of the marriage and compared with the traditional marriage of China in accient times to recount it. And then sume up the character and the characteristics of the marriage.ChapterⅡmainly expounded the effects to the kingship which are caused by the relationship by marriage between Yuanand Koryo. Here the writer will discuss from two parts: First, the writer will analysis the negative influences through the study of "The situation that Noryo is controlled by Koryo's king and Yuan's princess together" and "The aggrandizement of the system that the country's establishment depends on the Yuan Dynasty". Second, what the writer will analysis is the positive influences by the marriage through the study of "Controlling Koryo by many forces that depend on Yuan Dynasty" and "The strategy to make Koryo become a princess of the Yuan Dynasty". And then the writer will draw a conclusion that the main idea of Yuan' permition to the marriage is to suit the requirement of strengthening the dominion to Koryo.ChapterⅢmainly states the political effects by the supplementary factors of marriage. The supplementary factors we mentioned here are three parts below: One are the people who came to Koryo as the private wealth of Yuan's princess; The group of virgins for tribute which becomes more and more powerful under the refuge of Yuan Dynasty;The last one are the effects among the diplomatic decision of Koryo in the late times by the marriage between Yuan and Koryo.The last chapter is the conclusion of this paper. On the basis of studying of the problems that mentioned above, the character and characteristies of the relationship by marriage between Yuan and Koryo will be summarized here and the generalization on the political effects of Koryo by marriage will also be mentioned. Lastly, we'llreveal the essence of the marriage between Yuan and Koryo.
