This paper mainly discusses the comparative sentence "Fang" of mediaeval Chinese. The sentence sprouted in the Eastern Han Dynasty, flourished in Wei Dynasty, declined in the end of Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty. The paper analyzes the comparative sentence "Fang" , involving with its generation,characteristic and decline . The paper also shows the relation between the comparative sentence "Fang" and the comparative sentence "Bi" . Now we generalize the conclusion of studying briefly as follows:The-first, about generation of the comparative sentence "Fang" , we consider that it may derive from "ci hui ti dai", "Fang" takes the place of "Bi" , then enters into the comparative sentence "Bi" , and comes into the construction of the comparative sentence "Bi" . The conclusion is gotten by looking back the course of the comparative sentence "Bi" ' s generation and development. The comparative sentence "Fang" can' t derive from the sentence "Fang" as the comparative sentence "Bi" , because the time the sentence "Fang" generates is later than the comparative sentence "Fang" . At the same time , the comparative sentence "Fang" lacks of the generation and development's course.The second, the paper analyzes the characteristic of the comparative sentence "Fang" on its semantic function,structure style and component element of structure (such as comparative object). We consider that the comparative sentence "Fang" is the sentence that can express many kinds of comparative semantic, including TongBi,YiBi,GaoxiaBi and WenBi. The comparative sentence "Fang" has six structure styles, lacking of developing process, but it still has small changes in the using frequency. Among the component element of structure, it has close relation.The third, we consider the reasons that the comparative sentence "Fang" declined have so many, such as historical reason,congnitive reason,structure reason, using area reason and so on.
