Comparative sentence is a kind of important sentence, which mainly consists of comparative item, comparative word, comparative point, and comparative result. Based on formal benchmark of comparative sentence, we review the comparative sentence of modern Chinese emphasized on diachronic angel, sum up its features of different historical phases, and outline its developmental clues. Paying attention to the specific sentential forms, we pay more attention to historical vicissitude of semantic styles and pragmatic function. In this these, we pay attention to the organic unite of syntactic form, semantic characteristic and pragmatic function which are called"three planes". Based on description, analysis and comparison, we get the features as follows: (1) diversity of sentential style. There are many different styles in the three comparative degrees; (2) the unbalance of application. The diversity of sentential style makes enough space for different styles to be used; (3) commutative complementarity of comparative function. Some styles focus on affirmative function, and some focus on negative function; (4) multiplicity of syntactic function. The other two comparative degrees are not unique except the superlative degree in function. They have comparative function and figurative function at the same time.Comparative sentence of modern times comes through evolution of form with the evolution of Semantic characteristic and Pragmatic function. And they consummate gradually.
