Stephen Owen, who plays a leading role in researches on Tang literature in western world, has attracted great attention of domestic scholars due to his outstanding achievements. Much attention has been paid to his researches on literary theory, whereas his translation has been ignored. This thesis, focusing on strategies of translating and compiling of his selection of Chinese literature texts, an anthology of Chinese literature, attempts to find out relations between his researches and compilations, and probes distinctive features of his translation.The text is divided into three parts. The Preface gives an introduction of studying history on Stephen Owen and of studying methods and significances of this thesis.Chapter One discusses characteristics of publication of anthologies of Tang poetry in the United States, and analyzes cultural background as well as relations between translation and developments of American literature.Chapter Two, referring to other works of Owen, studies the compiling methods of Wang-chuan ji and Tang frontier poetry in this AnthologyChapter Three discusses the literature and culture significances of Owen's translation and, comes to the point that, devoting himself to culture and literature exchanges, Owen stands for a spokesman of Chinese literature in the western world.
