Stephen Owen is a famous American sinologist,and he is famous for study of T'ang poetry and Chinese classical literature among international sinologists.He insists to interpret ancient Chinese literature and literary theory with unique perspective and research methods,contributing a lot to globalization of ancient Chinese literature and providing a much more broad vision for domestic scholars.With Stephen Owen's research works and essays translated into China,more and more scholars have began to study Stephen Owen and his works,and they have got plenty of study results.However,these results lack of overall research of Stephen Owen.By research Chinese poetics of Stephen Owen from an overall perspective,this essay analyzes Stephen Owen's interpretation and construction of Chinese poetics,aiming to reveal Stephen Owen's Chinese poetics thought and its contribution.The introduction briefly introduces research achievements of domestic and foreign scholars on Chinese classical literature works of Stephen Owen.And then analyzes and sorts out these results,summarizes its deficiency,and points out innovation of this essay.The first chapter tries to seek the origin of Stephen Owen's study of Chinese poetics from western and Chinese cultural influences to further understand Stephen Owen's Chinese poetics thought.The second chapter tries to explain Stephen Owen's study of Chinese poetics from extension of Chinese poetic language and the method of close reading.The third chapter briefly introduces Stephen Owen's construction strategy of Chinese poetics from non-fiction tradition of Chinese poetry and triadic sequence of stages.The fourth chapter illustrates Stephen Owen's study of Chinese poetics by choosing Li Bai,Tao Yuanming,Writing of My Feelings,Traveling by Night,and Composed upon Westminster Bridge.The conclusion reveals contributions of Stephen Owen's study of Chinese poetics from theoretical and practical significance.
