As the society has come into elerly-society, the mental health of elderly has been made great importance gradually. How to measure, diagnose and intervent is important and difficult in the elderly mental health research field. The elderly is at the special development phase in life, and has special trait of body and mentality. So, the difining of mental health must adapt to them. Further, the new concept of positive mental health and the successful elderly suggest us to consider the defining again. We should regard them as"positive"and"delelopmental"individuals. Based on it, quantitative research of the intelligentsia elderly's mental health structure is very significative to the field.This research comprises 1 interview reaseach and 2 intestigations. The interview reaseach involves 19 intelligentsia elderly in city, and give us important first-hand data for confirming the factors of mental health and developing instrument. The 2 intestigations involve 169 and 211 participants individually, and we design the mental health test of intelligentsia elderly in city through item analysis and structure equation model test, the instrument includes 33 items and involves 5 factors. In the final research, we investigate the correlations of exercise and mental health. Finally, we elicit some conclusions as follows:First, we have eatablished mental health sturctue of intelligentsia elderly in city, this structure model includes 5 first level factors and accords with theories. The mental health test of intelligentsia elderly in city based on mental health sturctue has acceptable reliability and vadility.Second, we have considered body health, gender and age when researching the mental health of intelligentsia elderly in city. The intelligentsia elderly of good body health has better mental health than the poor body health ones. The younger female (60-69 age) have higher self-esteem.Third, exercise is beneficial to improve mental health level with positive facets, namely, happiness experience and sense of control and good coping these two factors can improve through exercise.Fourth, in order to improve mental health, the intelligentsia elderly should execise in this way: in constant way, choose 2-3 execises, 1-2 times per day, at least 10 years without delaying. Wheather the intelligentsia elderly execise for improving health or enjoying, they all have higher mental health level as result.
