Through the comparison of the painting and art theory between the master of Liu Haisu and Lin Fengmian, the author analysis their aesthetic conception and illustrate the similitude and dissimilitude of the two art masters. Different life experiences that Liu Haisu and Ling Fengmian had in their early stage of lives result in the different ways that they had in their later art world. Under the influence of literati painting, Liu Haisu's paintings absorb the spirit of poem, calligraphy, painting, and signet, and express his strong personal emotions and his naturalism style. While Lin Fengmian found the breakthrough of lines and colors in Chinese paintings from the observation of Chinese pottery, art works in Han, Tang Dynasty and folk arts. Using square composition and enjoyable colors, Lin Fengmian creates a kind of new Chinese painting style. On the other side, both of the two artist base on Chinese tradition, expressed the traditional culture and painting spirit in their own paintings. Furthermore, their attitudes towards art education are both under the impact of Mr. Cai Yuanpei's artistic education theory, and both of them spent their lifetime efforts on China's artistic education and cultivated so many excellent artists.
