Liu Xinglong, is a unique writer in the contemporary literary world. Under the complicated background of contemporary literature, he insists on writing in realism with great loyalty to his conscience. Guided by his faith, his works present human existence of spiritual degeneration in modern society, and strive to seek and rebuild the fine "spiritual homestead" of mankind. With a reference to the literary creation at the end of 20^th century, this paper, based on careful reading of Liu Xinglong's works, attempts to analyze Liu Xinglong's insistence of human "spiritual homestead" and it concrete embodiment in his works by the means of sociological criticism assisted by narrative analysis.This paper focuses its analysis on the seeking and constructing of human "spiritual homestead", which are embodied in Lin Xinglong's works. The first chapter, reviews Liu Xinglong's works of different period, and clarifies them. Among all of Liu Xinglong's works, this paper mainly discussed his "new realism" novels and history novels. The second chapter presents the connotation changes of spiritual homestead", during the process of Liu Xinglong's writing, and his ideal characters in his works. The third chapter takes" The gate of the Heaven" as a representation for seeking and constructing "spiritual homestead", and analyze it in detail hoping to find the unique track of Liu Xinglong's creation in this type. The fourth chapter probes into the limitations and deficiencies in Liu Xinglong's creation of seeking and constructing "spiritual homestead". The point is the deconstructing factors of "spiritual homestead", revealed in the paper . The conclusion of this paper explores the significance and influence of Liu Xinglong's efforts and looks forwards to the future writing of Liu Xinglong's.
