With these preparation, this thesis discusses the factual situation and development of each function type along the history, and at last, it analyzes the functions of the front portraits of a tomb owner in the stone relief in the Han Dynasty in the system situation that it was in, which is to analyze the relationship between the front portraits and techniques, economics, witchcraft and science, as well as the inner artistic motive of the front portraits, so as to proof the phenomenon that the three functions of the front portraits of a tomb owner in stone relief in the Han Dynasty are connected as 3 in 1.According to the analysis, we can find a cultural definition of the front portraits of a tomb owner in stone relief: it was closely connected with the complicated society, economics and culture in the East Han Dynasty, and is a special cultural phenomenon formed in a special historical situation, which made the front portraits of a tomb owner get a quality beyond nature, and get the manner of witchcraft and mythology, as well as the realistic quality, and get the manner of realism. It expressed the self-value of people in reality, and realized the individual value in one's life, as well as solaced people's fear to death that cannot be gotten rid of in real life. Each function is connected while being in the same system, which fed the factual and psychological needs.
