A Study On The Art Of The Han Dynasty Stone Relief In Tengzhou

Stone relief in the Han Dynasty is a kind of decorative stone structure used in tombs in Han Dynasty.Its engraving is a prominent decorative method in the tombs in Han Dynasty,which has been a topic of academic research for a long time.The Han Dynasty stone relief in Tengzhou dated back to emperor Han Wudi's time in the Western Han Dynasty,and was in use until in the late Eastern Han Dynasty.From the reign of emperor Guangxu of Qing Dynasty up to now,the stone reliefs have been unearthed in almost the whole Tengzhou area.The decorative art of Han Dynasty stone relief in Tengzhou follow the general rules of development of Han Dynasty stone relief,namely the engraved images are concise and plain in style from the middle and late period of Western Han Dynasty to the early Eastern Han Dynasty,whereas since the middle and late period of Eastern Han Dynasty,the images become richer and more complicated,with more mature carving techniques.The development trend is from a simple style to a more delicate and vivid depiction.Because of the special geographical location,there are differences in the artistic style of Han Dynasty stone relief in different regions of Tengzhou.Its development has certain social foundation such as the emphasis on grand burials in the Han Dynasty.This paper focuses on the Han Dynasty stone relief in Tengzhou,applying research methods such as iconology and comparative analysis.From the areas of theme and content,decorative pattern,carving techniques,styles and features and so on,this paper carries out comprehensive investigation and research on it.It further analysis the foundation of its generation from the emphasis on grand burials in the Han Dynasty,the economic development of qilu area and the unique geographical environment of Tengzhou,so as to promote the study on the art of the Han Dynasty stone relief.
