Whether the value orientation of the ordinary school music education is bases on the intrinsic aesthetic value or the external practical value is main question which this article must solve. The article first divides the value of music education into the intrinsic aesthetic value and the external practical value. The author defines intrinsic value as the aesthetic value and discusses the external practical value from the perspectives of moral, intellectual and physical education. Dating back, through the hundred year development of national music education, we approximately keep making the choice between the intrinsic aesthetic value and the external practical value. The wave of innovation of new music course and the establishment of its new course standards in 2001 symbolizes the music education has taken the aesthetic experience value as the core value system, and the intrinsic aesthetic value and the external practical value finally has got rid of this awkward relation in order to combine the two together. It's proved that the value of music education needs fusion and the music education focuses on the overall value which is the correct attitude, for music education is different from music and unique among other types of education.
