Schumann's"Cello Concerto in a minor,"is the treasure in the cello repertoire. It is both demanding on music expression and performance technique as it represents the technical perfection and artistic maturity. After the intensive reference to Volume IV of"cello art history"by Ginzburg (translated By Chen Guo Zhang) and Musical Structure Analysis to Cello Concerto in a minor by Professor Zong Bo(from Central Conservatory of Music), the author discusses in detail on the composing and performance features. This paper first outlines the features of the composer's creativity and gives a more detailed exposition on the background, formal structure, and composing features and performing techniques. On composing characteristics, the author focuses on analyzing its melody, rhythm, dynamics and symphonic features; the author also points out detailed suggestions on performing it: Intonation, vibratos, blending, special bowing and cross-bowing, etc., and systemically expresses aspects of bowing. In the final chapter of paper, the author collects, and sorts out seven representative recording versions, and makes comprehensive and systematic analysis and comparison on various performers. Schumann's"a minor Cello Concerto"has raised very high demand for the performing technique and artistic taste, therefore, it is regarded as the standard to judge a performer's maturity. |
